The Scottish Terrier Club of Greater New York presentation to Saint Andrew’s Society.
The history of the Scottish Terrier clubs in the UK and America, and the Scottish Terriers that have won Best in Show at Westminster Kennel Club. The discussion will center around the description and character of the Scottish Terrier breed and it’s history, the history of the Scottish Terrier clubs in the UK and America, and the Scottish Terriers that have won Best in Show at Westminster Kennel Club. Pictures will be prominently displayed.

Our speaker, William Berry, 76, has had Scottish Terriers for 41 years, under the Kennel name Motherwell. His father’s parents emigrated from Motherwell (near Glasgow), shortly after the turn of the century. His mother’s grandparents emigrated from Glasgow in the 1800’s, her maiden name was McLean.

Now retired, he has worked in administrative positions for Honeywell and BAE SYSTEMS, and is a decorated Veteran of the Vietnam War. He was the owner of the stud dogs that brought the Scotties Barney and Miss Beazley to the White House under the second Bush administration.

William is a distinguished member of many Scottie clubs, dating back to 1978, both in the US and the UK. He has served in all capacities for the Scottish Terrier Club of Greater New York over the years, and is currently on their board of directors. He is also currently serving on the board of the Health Trust for the Scottish Terrier Club of America. William presently has two Champion Scottish Terriers at home, and has had over 20 other Scotties during his career. His dogs are being exhibited by George Wright of NJ who emigrated from North Glasgow, and traces his lineage back to a great grandmother who lived in Stornoway on the Isle of Lewis. William maintains an extreme interest in the history of the Scottish Terrier, and has a sizable collection of Scottish Terrier art and collectibles.

The Scottish Terrier Club of Greater New York was organized in the 1970’s. It is one of the 23 regional Scottish Terrier Clubs of the Scottish Terrier Club of America. There are currently 80 members in the Greater New York area, dedicated to the welfare of the breed.
